Dr. Nancy Vertel

Dr. Nancy Vertel, Certified Specialist - Restricted to Pediatric Dentistry UBCAs both a certified pediatric dentist and a mother, Dr. Nancy Vertel knows that any health problem affecting a child has the potential to impact the entire family. To protect the well-being of both child and family, she believes a more holistic approach to care is needed.

After years of specialized training, Dr. Vertel has opened Maple Ridge Dentistry for Kids to offer children in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge the specialized dental care they need in a comforting, child-centric environment close to home. 

 

Having been raised in Colombia, Dr. Vertel is fluent in both Spanish and English. When not at the office, she likes to spend time with her family. Her favourite activities are hiking, yoga and volunteering with the Special Olympics.

 

Educational Background

 

Dr. Vertel is a certified specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery and a Master of Science in Craniofacial Science degree from the University of British Columbia. She also instructs part-time at the university’s Faculty of Dentistry and is on staff at BC Children’s Hospital. Dr. Vertel serves as a mentor for the Golden Ears Dental Alliance (GEDA) of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge and for the Delta Multidisciplinary Dental Study Club (DMDSC) which she founded.

Dr. Zina Alkafaji

DDS, Certified Specialist - Pediatric Dentistry

As a mother and a healthcare provider, Dr. Alkafaji understands that children require extra care, time, and attention during a dental visit, as well as a comfortable, child-centred setting. At Maple Ridge Dentistry for Kids, Dr. Alkafaji has the perfect environment for meeting these needs and providing the best care for her young patients.

 

Pediatric Dentistry is something Dr. Alkafaji has been passionate about from a very young age. She loves sharing teeth care tips and fun and healthy snack ideas with her patients and their parents. For each of her patients, Dr. Alkafaji’s goal is to help them achieve and maintain a healthy, confident smile. .   
 

In her spare time, you will find Dr. Alkafaji at the park, beach, or biking around beautiful Vancouver with her husband and two children. She is an avid traveller, yogi, novice skier, and self-proclaimed coffee-addict.


Educational Background
 

Dr. Alkafaji is a graduate of the College of Dentistry at the University of Illinois- Chicago. After graduating, she practiced general dentistry for two years until enrolling at the University of British Columbia for specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry. At the university, she earned a Masters in Craniofacial Science and continues her affiliation by teaching both undergraduate and graduate students of the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry.

Dr. Soussou

DDS, Certified Specialist - Pediatric Dentistry


Dr. Soussou

Dr. Soussou is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist, committed to providing quality dental care for healthy, medically compromised and special needs infants, children and adolescents.   Dr. Soussou is passionate about children and feels privileged to be working with them.   She strives to help children feel comfortable and relaxed at their dental appointment. She befriends them and establishes the special trust to make their visit as easy, comfortable and enjoyable as possible. She loves making a positive difference in children’s lives’, seeing the smiles on their faces is particularly rewarding.

Dr. Soussou is a proud wife and mother of two wonderful daughters. In her spare time, you will find Dr. Soussou at the swimming pool, either swimming or cheering her two competitive swimmer daughters.  She also enjoys baking, travelling and exploring new countries, cultures and food with her family and friends!

 

Educational Background

 

Dr. Soussou received her Bachelor degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2001 from the Jordan University of Science and Technology, she also received her American Dental Board accreditation in 2004.

 

Dr. Soussou moved with her family to Vancouver in 2012. She returned to school to pursue speciality training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of British Columbia where she also obtained a Masters in Craniofacial Science. The scope of her research was focused on advocating the importance of oral health care to children’s caregivers.

Dr. Soussou is also a fellow-elect of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, British Columbia Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and the British Columbia Dental Association.

 

Dr. Soussou is committed to teaching and training future dentists and pediatric dentists and is a Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia and attending staff member at the BC Children’s Hospital.
